Export of cocoa powder to Russia, more prosperous than ever
It’s hard to imagine the confectionery industry without cocoa products. Despite all the shocks, the demand for cocoa is stable and increases several times during the New Year holidays. The growth characteristics of cocoa beans are somehow that only a limited number of countries are suitable for cultivation. Russia, like many other countries, does not have the right climate for the growth of this valuable fruit. That’s why the country imports cocoa beans and cocoa products, including cocoa powder. Export of cocoa powder to Russia has grown significantly in recent years.
The amount of cocoa powder imported to the Russian market in 2017 increased by 6,408 (+ 14%) compared to 50,867 tons in 2016, which means 110,256.6 thousand dollars. According to the Federal Customs Service, in the first quarter of 2019, the delivery of cocoa and its products to Russia increased by 3.5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 71.4 thousand tons.
The main countries involved in the export of cocoa powder to Russia in 2017 were: Malaysia, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the share of leading importers, Malaysia, is 27.3%. German cocoa powder makes up about 21.1% of delivered goods. Spain and the Netherlands are in third and fourth place.
